As part of its ongoing efforts to build a more welcoming and helpful community, Zomato introduced a maternity insurance plan for its women delivery partners. Zomato’s initiative is aimed at creating an inclusive environment for women delivery partners and offering crucial assistance throughout pregnancy, which is an industry-first effort.

The insurance plan will pay for pregnancy-related costs, including the cost of delivery and any complications associated with motherhood, giving the women delivery partners and their families financial support. The food delivery major has partnered with the tech-first insurer ACKO to provide this maternity insurance coverage. The women delivery partners who have accomplished 1,000 deliveries on the Zomato platform and who have been active on the date of the maternity insurance plan’s notification for the last sixty days will be eligible for this insurance coverage.

As reported by IANS, Rakesh Ranjan, Food Delivery CEO, Zomato, said in a statement, “By launching Comprehensive Maternity Insurance for Gig Workers, we aim to provide additional support to our partners during their motherhood journey, strengthening our dedication towards their well-being and financial security. We are considering, which will help them meet their needs at every step.”

Ranjan added, “The guiding concepts of our organizational structure are inclusion and diversity. Our dedication encompasses all facets and stakeholders in our company, not only the delivery partners who are vital to our daily operations but also every sector of our organization. A vital component of the Zomato ecosystem, female delivery partners embody resiliency and defy industry prejudices.”

This insurance plan offers benefits of up to Rs 25,000 for a typical delivery, Rs 40,000 for C-section birth, and Rs 40,000 for difficulties related to pregnancy, including miscarriage and abortion.

By attending to the personal and professional requirements of its delivery partners, Zomato is dedicated to fostering a more encouraging gig economy. This includes benefits that have already been announced, such as medical coverage, ambulance services, accident insurance, and loss of pay assistance, according to the company.
