VVS Laxman, the former India cricketer and current head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), caught with his former national teammate and current head coach of the Indian cricket team Rahul Dravid on the anniversary of their iconic 376-run partnership that helped India come back from behind to beat Australia. The two batters batted the entire day after Australia had enforced a follow-on and reduced the hosts to 232/4 in their second innings at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

“Great to catch up with my partner in crime, 23 years to the day since we batted out the entire day against Australia in Kolkata. Rahul and I went down memory lane, reliving and reminiscing that riveting series! What fun,” Laxman posted on X (formerly Twitter) while sharing a picture of his encounter.

India Went On To Beat Australia By 171 Runs In Kolkata Test Of 2001

Australia batted first and posted 445 runs in the first innings before bundling out India for 171. In the second innings, India stared at a defeat after losing their top order but Dravid and Laxman stitched a partnership for the ages to help India comeback. While Dravid scored 180, Laxman went on to score a career-best 281 as India went on to register a score of 657/7 before declaring their innings.

The Sourav Ganguly-led side then bowled Australia out for 212 as India wrapped up a famous win with the crowd behind their back. Laxman, was adjudged the Player of the Match, after top-scoring in each of India’s two innings, having made 59 in the first. India had lost the series opener in Mumbai, levlled the series with the win in Kolkata and then went on to beat Australia by 2 wickets in Chennai to win the series 2-1.
