Volvo: 50 Percent of Vehicles to Ditch Fossil Fuels by 2030, Net Zero Emission Goal by 2040 – News18

In a groundbreaking announcement at the Digital Acceleration and Transformation Expo (DATE), Volvo India’s President and Managing Director, Kamal Bali, revealed the company’s ambitious plan to have half of its vehicles powered by non-fossil fuels by 2030.

Emphasizing the commitment to environmental sustainability, Bali declared that these vehicles would be entirely non-polluting.

“At Volvo, we have set a target that by 2030, 50 percent of our vehicles will be non-fossil fuel-based. They will be non-polluting. The remaining 50 percent will achieve non-zero emission status by 2040,” stated Bali, outlining Volvo’s dual-pronged approach to usher in a greener automotive future.

Bali highlighted the significant impact of the transportation industry on global greenhouse gas emissions, noting that it accounts for a substantial 20 percent of the world’s total. He urged other automobile companies to follow Volvo’s lead, asserting that a collective commitment to emission reduction could bring about a monumental change in the environment.

In a move towards gender inclusivity, Bali also revealed Volvo’s pledge to have 35 percent of all employees at leadership and other levels be women, aligning it with the company’s broader vision of sustainability.
