Uttar Pradesh ATS Arrests Duo Suspected Of Sending ‘Sensitive Information’ To Pakistan’s ISI

New Delhi: The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh Police arrested two persons over their alleged connection with Pakistani intelligence agency ISI and terror funding, ATS said in a statement, reported news agency PTI. The arrested accused have been identified as 25-year-old Amrit Gill alias Amrit Pal, resident of Punjab’s Bhatinda, and 36-year-old Riyazuddin, hailing from Faridnagar, Ghaziabad.
The ATS team arrested Amrit Gill from Bathinda on November 23 and Riyazuddin was summoned to the ATS headquarters for interrogation, from where he was arrested on Sunday. The ATS said the duo is suspected to be spying for the ISI.
According to ATS, both Gill and Riyazzudin were sending “sensitive confidential information” to ISI for money, PTI reported. The probe was initiated following an FIR at ATS police station in Lucknow under relevant sections against Riyazuddin, Izharul Haq and others.
It is to be noted that Haq is currently serving jail term in Bihar’s Batia. He will be brought to Lucknow on a remand in connection with the ongoing case, ATS said, as reported by the news agency.
During investigation, ATS also went through Riyazuddin’s bank accounts and found Rs 70 lakh was transferred between March 2022 and April 2022. The amount was transferred to different accounts.
On analysing the bank statements, ATS found money was transferred to Gill, an auto driver by profession, who in turn provided confidential information to the ISI. According to ATS, Gill would send information on Indian Army’s tanks.
ATS further said that Riyazuddin and Haq met while working together in Rajasthan. They were engaged in welding work. Since then, they have been working for the Pakistani intelligence agency and keeping in touch with each other.
The ATS in its statement said preliminary probe suggests Gill was in contact with Pakistani ISI agents and had been providing sensitive information related to the Indian Army. In return, he got financial support from Haq and Riyazuddin.
