‘Upswing In Levels Of Cooperation’: Jaishankar On India-Taiwan’s ‘Substantial’ Relations

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has said that India has substantial economic and commercial relations with Taiwan, and there has been an upswing in the levels of cooperation between the two nations. Speaking on Taiwan, Jaishankar said that Taiwan has a reputation when it comes to electronics and semiconductors.

“We have substantial technology and economic and commercial relations with Taiwan and certainly Taiwan has a reputation when it comes to electronics and of course, more recently with semiconductors. So, there has been an upswing in the levels of cooperation,” Jaishankar said.

Meanwhile, speaking on the India-Canada diplomatic row and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations of India’s involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Jaishankar has requested evidence to support the claims.

Jaishankar highlighted the importance of credible evidence. When asked if there was any evidence of the Indian government’s involvement in the killing, the EAM categorically stated, “None,” according to ANI.

On Trudeau’s allegations, Jaishankar stated that he has discussed the matter with his Canadian counterpart, Melanie Joly, urging the Canadian government to share any evidence they may have. He emphasised India’s willingness to consider an investigation but stated that no evidence has been provided thus far.

“Now, in the case of Mr. Trudeau, I have discussed it also with my own counterpart. And we have told them, look, if you have a reason to make such an allegation, please share the evidence with us. We are not ruling out an investigation and looking at anything that they may have to offer. They haven’t done so,” Jaishankar said, as quoted by ANI.
