UP BJP List: Smriti Irani, Rajnath Singh To Contest Amethi, Lucknow

New Delhi: Seeking to hit the ground running while the Opposition is still in the process of firming up seat-sharing deals, the BJP on Saturday announced candidates for 51 of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. Leading the line for the ruling party at the Centre would be Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who would seek a fresh term in the Lower House from Varanasi.

Significantly, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is in the fray from Lucknow, the seat he currently represents in the Lok Sabha. Among the other notable inclusions are Union Ministers Smriti Irani from Amethi, Ravi Kishan from Gorakhpur and former Union Minister Dr Mahesh Sharma from Gautam Buddh Nagar.

Also, importantly, sitting MP from Lakhimpur Kheri Ajay Mishra Teni has been given a ticket for a fresh term in the Lok Sabha, while yesteryear actor-turned politician Hema Malini has been repeated from Mathura.

Among the other prominent candidates are Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti from Fatehpur, Neelam Sonkar from Lalganj, Rekha Verma from Dhaurarha.
