Techie Lands His Dream Job At Google After 8 Interview Rounds. Here Are The Tips That He Shared

Despite the mass layoffs that we have seen in the recent past, companies like Google are still the dream company for a number of people in India. However, landing a job at Google isn’t exactly a piece of cake. A software engineer at the company while talking to Business Insider narrated his experience of how he managed to secure a job offer from Google, after 8 interview rounds.

The software engineer, Sahil Gaba, told Business Insider that he was rejected twice by Google already and he had reached a point where he stopped caring about the results of interviews. He said, “I had taken and failed so many of them,” and added that it feels “liberating” if one goes to an interview with a mindset that they have been through it all.

According to the report, Gaba finally landed an offer in his dream company in 2021. Notably, this was the third time that he had applied for the job.

Gaba’s Experience & Learnings

Gaba stated that when one interviews for a job while working for a company already then it takes out a lot of pressure. He recalled that he was happy while working at Amazon and hence, when he showed up for his Google interview for the third time in a row, he was not under a lot of pressure. However, earlier during his second try, he was trying to get out of his then job desperately.

During his third round of interviews with Google, Gaba strategically scheduled his appointments to coincide with those at Meta and Uber. He believed that this timing would give him a slight advantage during salary negotiations with all three companies. Reflecting on his approach, he acknowledged that this strategy facilitated a more balanced and effective negotiation process across the board.

The Google engineer also shared that he previously relied on referrals when applying for jobs. However, he changed his approach and began applying directly through company websites or job portals. For example, when applying to Amazon, he simultaneously applied to 15 different positions.

Additionally, Gaba mentioned that he switched programming languages from Java to Python during the interview process. This change helped him write code more efficiently and contributed to his success in the interviews.
