Tamil Nadu Announces New Committee To Recommend Panel For Selection Of Madras University VC

The Tamil Nadu government has announced the formation of a new committee to recommend a panel for the selection of the Madras University Vice-Chancellor. The new committee would recommend a three-member panel to the governor of Tamil Nadu, RN Ravi, who also serves as the chancellor of the Madras University, to select the Vice-Chancellor of the varsity. The Tamil Nadu government announced the new committee through a gazetted notification named ‘Notification of Search Committee Members To Recommend A Panel Of Three Persons To The Chancellor For Selection Of Vice Chancellor To University Of Madras, Chennai, Under The Madras University Act, 1923. 

In its notification, the Tamil Nadu government notified the appointment of three members to the news search committee for the recommendation of Madras University Vice Chancellor. The three members of the search committee include: Professor Battu Satyanarayana, Vice Chancellor Of the Central University of Karnataka, Thiru. K. Deenabandu, I.A.S., (Retd.), Member, State Planning Commission, Ezhilagam, Chennai, and Dr P. Jagadeesan, former Professor and Head, Department of history, University of Madras and former Vice Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, Senior Fellow, Indian Council Of historical Research.

The notification further underlined that Professor Battu Satyanarayana shall be the convenor of the above search committee. The search committee will put forward three names to the chancellor of Madras University, for the appointment of university vice chancellor. 

“Prof Battu Satyanarayana, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Karnataka, Kalaburagi, will be the convenor of the above search committee. The above committee shall recommend a panel of three names along with their bio data to the Hon’ble Governor-Chancellor of University of Madras, Chennai as provided under sub-section (1) of Section 11 of the Madras University Act, 1923 (Tamil Nadu Act 7 of 1923).
