Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan met women supporters in Bhopal. This comes a day after Chouhan submitted his resignation to Governor Mangubhai Patel after Mohan Yadav was elected as the leader of the state legislative party at a meeting held here on Monday.

The BJP leader reached Raj Bhavan immediately after the meeting of newly-elected MLAs concluded and tendered his resignation. The saffron party has picked Mohan Yadav (58), an OBC leader and a three-time MLA, as the next chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, state party president VD Sharma said. Chouhan had served as chief minister for four terms.

Shivraj Chouhan said he would rather die than ask something for himself from the leadership in Delhi. He said this when asked about his ambitions of a central post after being at the helm of affairs in Madhya Pradesh for almost two decades. He said he did not like going to Delhi to ask for something and that he was in Madhya Pradesh and will remain there.

On his stint as the chief minister of MP, he said, “BJP has made me CM for 18 years. BJP has given me everything and now it’s time to return to the party. After Ladli, will now work on Lakhpati Yojana.”

This time, in the run up to the polls, the BJP did not project a CM face — touted to be one of the strategies to circumvent the perceived anti-incumbency. Howeever, the party swept the state dashing the Congresss’s hopes of coming back to power in the state.
