Samsung initiated the rollout of the One UI 6.1 update for older Galaxy devices last week. However, following the deployment of this AI-focused software update, numerous users across the Web reported encountering touchscreen issues with their Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra models. Some users have even stated that their screens became entirely unresponsive to touch inputs after updating to One UI 6.1. Samsung officially acknowledged this problem on Wednesday (April 3) and provided a solution. The South Korean company attributed the issue to compatibility conflicts with certain Google app features.

According to reports from users on platforms like Reddit and Samsung’s support forum, owners of Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra devices are experiencing erratic touch responses following the installation of the One UI 6.1 update. Through communication on Samsung’s Korean support forum, the company has recognized the touchscreen glitch and proposed a temporary workaround. Samsung indicated that the Google Discover feed is the culprit behind the touchscreen performance glitches observed on affected Galaxy S23 series smartphones.

Samsung recommends that affected users temporarily update the Google app to the latest version via Google Play, clear the app’s data, and then restart their devices to resolve the issue. To delete the app’s data, users can navigate to Settings > Apps > Google > Storage > Delete Data. It has been reported that Google is actively working on a permanent solution for this issue.

Affected Devices

The global rollout of the One UI 6.1 update commenced last week in March for last year’s Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series. Numerous users have reported experiencing charging and fingerprint scanner issues on their Galaxy S23 models after installing the update.

The AI-focused One UI 6.1 was introduced back in January during the unveiling of the Galaxy S24 series. It brings forth a range of AI-powered functionalities under the Galaxy AI experience umbrella. These features encompass Live Translate, Chat Assist, Note Assist, and Circle to Search.
