The highly-acclaimed OnePlus Pad, lauded for being one of the best Android tablets in recent years, is getting a successor in 2024 with the OnePlus Pad 2, according to a renowned tipster. Launched in early 2023, the original OnePlus Pad impressed most with its large, high-refresh-rate display, powerful processor that rivaled flagships and ample memory, all at a competitive price point. Even today, the OnePlus Pad (read our full review here) remains a compelling choice for Android tablet users.

According to noted tech insider Max Jambor, the wait for the next generation tablet from OnePlus won’t be much longer. The OnePlus Pad 2 is expected to launch in the second half (H2) of 2024, bringing potentially significant upgrades to the already impressive tab.

Following the February 2023 launch of the well-received OnePlus Pad, rumours now suggest a sequel — the OnePlus Pad 2 — is on track for a release this year. This 1.5-year release cycle aligns with typical tablet refresh rates. While specifics remain under wraps, fans are eager to see how OnePlus addresses shortcomings in the original model. Key areas for improvement could include: A higher resolution display, an upgraded chipset and the lack of secure unlocking methods in the first iteration was a significant drawback. We can expect the OnePlus Pad 2 to include fingerprint or facial recognition integration.

To recall, the OnePlus Pad was launched with a premium flair thanks to its aluminum alloy body. This metal back not only feels more luxurious in hand but also gives the tablet a sturdier impression.

The price of the OnePlus Pad starts at Rs 37,999 for the 8GB/128GB model in India. The other variant will cost Rs 39,999 for 12GB/256GB storage.

Built for multitasking users, the OnePlus Pad is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset, which sports a Cortex-X2 core clocked at up to 3.05GHz. The high-end SoC has TSMC N4 (4nm-class) production process, based on Arm’s latest V9 architecture. This could help the OnePlus Pad with a 35 per cent performance advantage and 35 per cent power efficiency.
