Noida: No Religious Processions, Liquor Consumption At Public Places On Holi. Know Restrictions

Uttar Pradesh News: The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police has announced stringent measures ahead of Holi, prohibiting religious prayers, processions, and the consumption of liquor in public places across Noida and Greater Noida. The decision comes as the police imposed CrPC section 144 across the district, aiming to maintain peace and prevent disturbances during the festival, news agency PTI reported.

Holi 2024: Restrictions and Prohibitions in Noida

Under the imposed restrictions, no religious prayers or processions will be permitted at public places or disputed sites on Holi. Additionally, the consumption of liquor or intoxicating substances in public places is strictly prohibited, with violators warned of action under IPC section 188, PTI’s report stated.

The order highlighted concerns over potential disruptions of peace due to protests scheduled for March 25, coinciding with Holi and Dhulandi festivals, as well as upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Additional DCP (law and order) Hirdesh Katheriya stressed the urgency of the situation, leading to the passing of the order ex-parte.

“Considering the seriousness and urgency of the situation and due to paucity of time, it is not possible to provide an opportunity of hearing to any other party, hence this order is being passed ex-parte,” the order stated, as per PTI.

The order prohibits unlawful assemblies, unauthorised processions or demonstrations, and the use of private drones within a 1 km radius of government establishments. It also bans the carrying of weapons such as sticks, rods, tridents, swords, and firearms in public places.

Religious Processions, Flags, Banners Barred In Noida

Namaz, Pooja, or any religious processions are completely barred in public areas and routes. Permission from the Police Commissioner, or the Additional Commissioner of Police or Deputy Commissioner of the Police Zone concerned is mandated for such activities under unavoidable circumstances. The order also prohibits insulting religious scriptures, displaying religious flags, banners, or posters on religious sites, and letting loose animals during religious gatherings.

“No person will neither (sic) try nor inspire anyone to offer puja, namaz etc at disputed sites where the practice is not prevalent. Apart from this, no person will insult each other’s religious scriptures. Will not put any kind of religious flags, banners, posters etc. on religious places, walls etc, nor will he provide assistance to anyone in this work,” it added, as per the report.
