NCS Portal Registers 1 Million Active Vacancies, One-Third For Freshers

Over 1 million active vacancies are up for grabs on the National Career Service (NCS) Portal of the Ministry of Labour and Employment. Jobs include roles of technical support executives, sales executives, data entry operators, logistics executives, software engineers, and maintenance engineers, among others. These vacancies have been sourced from a mix of public and private sector employers.

“The National Career Service (NCS) Portal of the Ministry of Labour & Employment (MoLE), Government of India has registered more than one million active vacancies on August 28, 2023. These vacancies have been reported by various employers in the public sector as well as in private sector on the NCS portal which are still open for recruitment,” the Ministry of Labour and Employment said in a release on Monday.    

The ministry said out of the one million active vacancies, about one-third of vacancies are notified for freshers. 

These vacancies on the NCS portal span across diverse sectors, with 51 per cent of the active vacancies reported in Finance and Insurance and 13 per cent in Transport and Storage sector. Other sectors like Operations and Support, IT and Communication, Manufacturing, etc, together contributed approximately 12 per cent of the vacancies. 

“The growth in employment opportunities may increase with the expected demand during the ensuing festival season taking the active vacancies in NCS portal to its new high,” the statement said. 

Out of the total active vacancies, 38 per cent of the vacancies were posted for the selection of candidates on an India basis whereas 18 per cent of vacancies were for the requirement at multiple States. The remaining vacancies are for state-specific requirements, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, NCS has achieved a milestone of registering more than 1.5 million employers in the NCS portal. A majority (68 per cent) of the employers are from the service activities, which is followed by the manufacturing sector (26 per cent).

In recent months, the government has been consistently holding Rozgar Melas to provide jobs in the public and private sectors. Earler this week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed 51,000 appointment letters to new recruits through video conferencing as part of the Rozgar Mela.

Recent data from the Centre for Monitoring the Indian Economy shows a decline in overall unemployment to 7.95 per cent in July, compared to 8.45 per cent in June. Rural unemployment dropped to 7.89 per cent, while urban unemployment slightly rose to 8.06 per cent from 7.87 per cent.
