Two youths who were kidnapped by militants of Myanmar-based NSCN-K (Ang Mai) were rescued by security personnel from a forest in Mon district of Nagaland after a gunfight. According to a statement, a group of armed cadres of the militant outfit kidnapped the victims on Friday from Yannyu village.

After locals reported the incident, Assam Rifles and Nagaland Police launched a joint search operation to rescue the youths, as reported by news agency PTI.

During searches, security forces came across the militants in a forest near the Wetting village. A gunfight broke out, following which the militants fled leaving the kidnapped youths behind. A huge quantity of arms and ammunition, including an M-16 rifle and three pistols, were recovered from the spot, reported PTI.

The statement further stated that a civilian guide was also apprehended in the operation.
