Modi In Assam: Congress Ignored Northeast For Decades, Says PM Modi In Jorhat

Lashing out at the previous governments of Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that during BJP’s government in the state has been able to take down the number of Rhinos killed over the years. As Assam awaits its ‘Golden Jubilee’, PM Modi said that the “double engine” government is leaving no stone unturned in the infrastructural development in the state.

PM Modi said, “The double engine govt is working at a great speed for the development of Assam. Assam has shown unprecedented pace in the infrastructure, health, and energy sector”.

“The development of Northeast is necessary for fulfilling the resolution of ‘Viksit Bharat’. Congress laid the foundation stone of projects, got their pictures clicked, misled the people, and ran away. But Modi considers the entire Northeast as his family,” PM Modi said.

Expressing gratitude towards the people of the state, the PM said, “I bow down in gratitude before you all for coming in such large numbers to bless us…This love is a treasure for me”.

“We are trying to make the lives of the women in Assam easier and ensure that economically her savings increase. Yesterday, on the occasion of Women’s Day, our govt made the decision to reduce the price of LPG cylinders by Rs 100,” PM said.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma presented several gifts to PM Modi. Following this, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth more than Rs 17,500 crores in the state.

Having arrived at Kaziranga on Friday evening for a two-day visit, Modi unveiled the 125-ft high ‘Statue of Valour’ dedicated to the legendary Ahom general Lachit Barphukan in Jorhat.

Concluding his speech, the Prime Minister slammed the “parivaarvadis” in the same way he had done hours earlier in another northeastern state, Arunachal, asking the audience, “They say Modi doesn’t have a family. I would like to ask you, “Who is Modi’s family?” The people responded, “Ye hai Modi ka parivaar”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on an elephant and jeep safari within Assam’s Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve on Saturday morning, as reported by news agency PTI, citing an official.

During his inaugural visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Modi initiated the safari experience in the Mihimukh area of the Central Kohora Range, beginning with an elephant safari and subsequently opting for a jeep safari within the same range.

Park director Sonali Ghosh and other senior forest officials accompanied the prime minister during the exploration, the PTI report said. 

On his initial arrival at Tezpur airport, Modi received a warm welcome from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The final leg of his journey, covering approximately 15 km, involved a road trip from the helipad to the Police Guest House near the Central Kohora Range in Kaziranga National Park.

Having spent the night at the Guest House, the Prime Minister commenced a jungle safari early on Saturday morning.

Following the safari, Modi departed for Arunachal Pradesh, participating in two scheduled programmes. In the afternoon, he returned to Jorhat to inaugurate the 125-ft high ‘Statue of Valour’.

 It is noteworthy that on February 4, the Prime Minister had previously visited Assam, launching infrastructure projects valued at Rs 11,600 crore.
