Could Windows 12 launch next year?

Intel CFO, during Citi’s annual analyst conference hinted that Microsoft could bring a “Windows refresh” next year. Here’s what we know.

Microsoft Windows 12 could be on track for release in 2024,” chipmaker Intel has hinted. During Citi’s annual analyst conference, Intel CFO David Zinsner mentioned a new Windows refresh, due to which users may need to upgrade their PCs.

As spotted by PC Gamer, in the event’s transcript, it was revealed that Intel believes that 2024 is going to be a good year for chipsets due to a purported “Windows refresh.”

“We still think that the installed base is pretty old and requires a refresh, and we think next year may be the start of that, given the Windows catalyst. So we’re optimistic about how things will play out beginning in 2024,” Intel CFO David Zinsner said.

It isn’t clear what Intel CFO means by a “refresh,” especially as there has been no official word from Microsoft about the alleged Windows 12. However, considering Intel is set to release its Meteor Lake chipsets soon, laden with AI-driven features, Microsoft could be quick to capitalize on Intel’s advances, along with its renewed focus on AI.

Microsoft, notably, is gradually doubling down on its AI ambitions with a revamped focus on products like Bing after the Redmond tech giant’s investment in ChatGPT creator OpenAI.

“As we start to develop future versions of Windows, we’ll consider other places where AI should naturally play a role in terms of the experience,” Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s consumer marketing chief, was quoted as saying by The Verge.

More recently, Microsoft has added a slew of AI-driven features to Windows 11—including the AI copilot feature built directly into Windows 11 and the 365 Copilot now integrated into everyday work and productivity applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and others.
