Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kickstart the Bharatiya Janata Party’s campaign in Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra on Monday for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls as the saffron party seeks a third term to form the government at the Centre. Modi will address a poll rally in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar and Maharashtra’s Chandrapur on Monday.

In Chhattisgarh, he will address a rally in Aamabal village in Bhanpuri in Bastar Lok Sabha constituency, which will go to polls on April 19, reported PTI.

The polls for 11 Lok Sabha seats from Chhattisgarh will take place in three phases on April 19, April 26 and May 7.

The Bastar rally holds significance with the state’s unique socio-political landscape, characterised by its tribal demographics and distinct culture.

In Maharashtra, the BJP has nominated the state’s Forest, Cultural Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar from Chandrapur Lok Sabha constituency which falls under the Vidarbha region. The polling for the seat will by held on April 19.

Mungantiwar will face Pratibha Dhanorkar, who has been fielded by Congress from the seat. She is the widow of Balu Dhanorkar who passed away last year at the age of 47.

As per a Hindustan Times report, the Maharashtra unit of the BJP is planning to hold Modi’s rally on those seats where a tough fight is expected from the opposition parties. After his today’s Chandrapur rally, Modi will visit the state again to address a public meeting in Ramtek on April 14.

Maharashtra sends 48 Parliamentarians to the Lok Sabha, which is the second highest after Uttar Pradesh which has 80 seats in the Lower House of the Parliament.

Congress candidate Balu Dhanorkar had won the Chandrapur seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, however, he passed away in May 2023 in a private hospital in Delhi.
