Kochi Water Metro To Begin Services From High Court Terminal To South Chittoor – News18

Within the next few weeks, Kerala’s Kochi Water Metro will launch three services from High Court Terminal to South Chittoor.

The decision was made at a meeting called by state industries minister P Rajeev on January 16 to review projects under Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL).

The starting date of the service would be announced later. Each service would be available in morning, noon, and evening, as per reports.

Subsequently, more services would be added, and the Eloor-Cheranelloor route would be covered. The meeting was also attended by Loknath Behara, Managing Director (MD) of KMRL, and other officials.

According to The Times of India, Kerala Industries Minister Rajeev informed that he would meet with the chief managing director of Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) to ensure the timely delivery of 11 more electric-hybrid boats to Kochi Water Metro Ltd (KWML). He also suggested that KMRL consult with the water transport department to draft legislation similar to the existing Metro rail system to ensure smooth operation of Water Metro.

Rajeev suggested that KMRL take steps to complete the construction of the new line between the Jawaharlal Nehru International (JLN) Stadium in Kochi and Kakkanad by March 2026, based on the progress of Kochi Metro’s Phase-II construction.

He stated that KMRL would consider a proposal for an underground Metro station at Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) in Metro’s proposed Phase-III line if technical conditions are met. He also asked KMRL officials to investigate the feasibility of connecting the Phase-III line to the proposed Gift City project site in Ayyampuzha.

The meeting also discussed the proposed Tripunithura terminal station, the final station in Phase-I, which is scheduled to open in February. The Industries minister further assured that he would consult with transportation department officials about the possibility of operating electric buses that KMRL intends to purchase for feeder services from Metro stations to benefit the public.

Industries Minister Rajeev stated that steps would be taken at the government level to accelerate the canal rejuvenation project and that the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) would be asked to expedite the development of the Edappally canal and four sewage treatment plants. The minister demanded that the Chilavannoor Bund Road Bridge and Market Canal renovations be completed on time.
