Temperatures are soaring in Karnataka, literally and figuratively. Several districts are reeling under an acute drinking water shortage – in Bengaluru 1,214 borewells have completely dried up. Politics is also heating up, temperatures rising, in the run-up to Lok Sabha polls.
Federalism in DNA | Kannadigas must be the country’s truest federalists if their voting pattern over the last 25 years is any yardstick. By accident or design, they end up voting for different parties in state and general elections. A pattern that’s largely played out barring brief periods when ‘double-engine’ govts emerged, again, more by accident than conscious choice.
Between 1999 and 2024, only for about six years, did the state have the same party or alliance in the historic Vidhana Soudha, as in North Block.
