In the 14th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2024, Mumbai Indians (MI) are up against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The crowd fell silent at the Wankhede Stadium on April 1 (Monday), as MI’s opening batter Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a first-ball duck by Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) Trent Boult. RR captain Sanju Samson showcased exceptional skill by taking a brilliant catch behind the wicket off Boult’s delivery in the first over.

In their first home game of the season, MI were assigned to bat first, presenting the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan with a challenging task, particularly considering the conditions at the venue, which tend to favour the new ball bowlers. Kishan approached the majority of the first over cautiously, carefully negotiating Trent Boult’s deliveries, before eventually managing to get off the mark on the fourth delivery.

Rohit Sharma faced a back-of-length delivery from Boult, just outside the off-stump line. Attempting a tentative poke in response, the right-handed batsman could only manage to edge it to Sanju Samson, resulting in his dismissal for no run.

Boult further solidified his dominance over MI by swiftly dismissing Naman Dhir on the very next ball with an inswinging delivery. This left MI in a precarious position, struggling at 2 for 1 after just the first over.

Trent Boult maintained his impressive spell by securing another wicket in his second over. He came close to achieving a hat-trick as he dismissed Dewald Brevis on the second delivery of his second over for a golden duck as well. He finished with remarkable figures of three wickets giving away just 22 runs in his four overs.
