Indian Army Chopper Crashes In Bihar’s Gaya, Both Pilots Sustain Minor Injuries

An Indian Army Officers’ Training Academy chopper on Tuesday crashed in Gaya, Bihar, with two pilots aboard, news agency IANS reported. The pilots, including a female, escaped with minor injuries. The chopper belonged to the Officers Training Academy (OTA) and was doing standard training. The incident took place at Kanchanpur village, Bodh Gaya sub-division.

The residents stated that two pilots were inside the helicopter when it crashed in an agricultural area.

The locals assisted in rescuing the two pilots and afterward alerted the local police and OTA about the incident, IANS reported.

The OTA officers arrived in the hamlet, and both pilots were brought to the base camp for treatment.

Last November, an Indian Navy personnel was killed when a Chetak training helicopter crashed during a regular ground maintenance check. The disaster occurred on the runway at the Naval Airport on Willingdon Island, near Kochi. According to IANS, the seven-seater chopper was carrying two individuals at the time of the accident.

“A Chetak helicopter met with a ground accident today during maintenance taxi checks at INS Garuda, Kochi, resulting in the
unfortunate loss of life of one ground crew. A Board of Inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of the accident,” news agency ANI reported citing the Indian Navy.

“Adm R Hari Kumar & all personnel of Indian Navy mourn the loss of life & pay tribute to Yogendra Singh, LAM who lost his life in the unfortunate accident at Kochi and extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family,” another statement read.
