Haryana Minister Sandeep Singh Gets Anticipatory Bail In Sexual Harassment Case

Haryana Minister Sandeep Singh on Friday received major relief as a local Chandigarh Court granted him anticipatory bail in connection with a sexual harassment case filed by a junior female coach. The former Haryana Sports Minister, who has been accused of sexual harassment by a junior female coach, appeared in court yesterday seeking anticipatory bail to avoid incarceration. However, the complainant had raised concerns about not receiving a copy of the bail plea filed by Sandeep Singh.

As a result, she submitted an application to the court requesting access to the document, which was provided. The case was then scheduled for Friday and now, he has been granted anticipatory bail.

Chandigarh police had filed charges against Sandeep Singh, the Minister of Printing and Stationery (MoS) (Independent Charge), in the court of CJM (Chief Judicial Magistrate) regarding allegations of sexual harassment made by a junior female coach. He has been charged under various sections including 342, 354, 354A, 354B, 506, and 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). A chargesheet was filed on August 25, 2023. The court had issued a notice to Minister Sandeep Singh regarding the case.

On December 26, 2022, a junior female coach accused Sandeep Singh, the former Haryana Sports Minister, of sexual harassment. The complaint led to the filing of an official complaint with the Chandigarh police. Following an investigation, a case was registered against Minister Sandeep Singh on December 31, 2022. A Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Deputy superintendent of Police (DSP) East Palak Goyal, was formed to probe the case, with the inclusion of Inspector Usha, in-charge of the Women’s Police Station, and Inspector Ranjit Singh, a cybercrime expert, in the team. Additionally, Section 509 of the IPC was also added to the charges after scrutiny by the Special Task Force (STF).
