International Women’s Day 2024: Google adorned its homepage with a vibrant Doodle on Friday, commemorating the strides made toward gender equality. This day holds historical significance as it marks the anniversary of the United Nations’ inaugural celebration of International Women’s Day in 1975.

Explaining the latest Doodle, Google said, “This International Women’s Day Doodle highlights a group of women sharing wisdom across generations within a quilt embroidered with symbols of progress made over the years.”

Illustrated by San Francisco-based artist Sophie Diao, the Doodle pays homage to the origins of International Women’s Day, which trace back to early women’s rights demonstrations in Saint Petersburg and New York City. Though held at different times and places, these rallies shared a common vision of achieving gender equality, encompassing fair employment, voting, and political representation.

According to Google’s description of the Doodle, modern International Women’s Day marches address contemporary challenges such as gender and racial wage disparities, reproductive rights, and combatting violence against women.
