Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the latest expansion of the Delhi Metro‘s Airport Express Line, connecting Dwarka Sector 21 to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 station.

Starting from the Dhaula Kuan Metro station, PM Modi embarked on a journey that turned into a memorable experience for fellow passengers. The Prime Minister interacted with commuters, and his willingness to pose for selfies made it a day to remember. This marked the twelfth time that Prime Minister Modi chose the Metro to inaugurate a facility or attend an event in Delhi, demonstrating his commitment to accessible and efficient transportation.

The extended Airport Express Line spans 2.2 kilometers, providing an efficient link between central Delhi and the Airport. It further takes you to Yashobhoomi, a convention center in Dwarka Sector 25. With seven stations in total, including important interchanges like New Delhi (connecting with the Yellow Line) and Dwarka Sector 21 (interchanging with the Blue Line), this extension is a lifeline for Delhiites.

Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25, an underground station, boasts three subways, including a 735-meter-long one connecting it to the convention center. Furthermore, this expansion promises better connectivity for residents around Sector 25 in Dwarka and the burgeoning sectors along the Dwarka Expressway in neighboring Gurugram.

The Metro station itself has seen significant improvements. It now features eight lifts, each capable of carrying 20 people at a time. This is a game-changer compared to earlier stations in the Delhi Metro network, where lifts could accommodate between 8 to 13 people per ride.

Besides this, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has increased the operational speed of Metro trains on the airport line from 110kmph to a swift 120kmph. This means that the journey between New Delhi and IGI Airport stations is now a breezy 15-and-a-half minutes, down from slightly over 18 minutes.

This speed boost marks the third such enhancement for the Airport Express line this year. In March, the DMRC amped it up from 90kmph to 100kmph, and then to 110kmph in June. With these developments, eight trains, each with six coaches, will now operate on the line at a frequency of 10 minutes.
