The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) moved an application seeking permission to interrogate and record the statement of BRS MLC K Kavitha in Tihar Jail on Friday. K Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao, is currently under judicial custody after being apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with Delhi Excise Policy Case last month.

On March 26, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court sent BRS leader K Kavitha to judicial custody in the alleged money laundering case till April 19.

Before the court order on March 26, while Kavitha was taken to court, she told the reporters that it was not a money laundering case but a case of political laundering. After the hearing, she said, “It is a fake case, but we are fighting it. Why politicians are being arrested during the elections? The ECI should intervene and protect the democracy in this country.”

Earlier, the ED accused Kavitha of playing a pivotal role in the ‘South Group.’ It alleged that the group facilitated kickbacks totaling Rs 100 crore to the AAP in return for a considerable share of liquor licenses in the national capital.

Meanwhile, she became the third high-profile politician to be arrested in the case, following AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh. Later, ED also arrested Delhi CM Kejriwal in the case and later he was sent into ED remand.
