Arrivals on runway 29R/11L have commenced, and the first flight to land on it was IndiGo from Mumbai (6E-2015) on September 9 at 3.09 pm on 11L side.

In order to provide a seamless air travel expirence to flyers, Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) started the flight landing operations on  IGI Airport’s latest runway 29R/11L. It has been reported that the steps have been taken after the old Warhorse Airstrip, 28/10 became non-operational due to renovation.

The report also says that the runway will remain in the non-operation category till mid-December.

Here’s What DIAL’s Official Says About Fourth Runway

While confirming the news, and reacting about the same, one of the officials from the DIAL said “Arrivals on runway 29R/11L have commenced, and the first flight to land on it was IndiGo from Mumbai (6E-2015) on September 9 at 3.09 pm on 11L side. In addition, he said the reason why the plane landed from the Gurgaon side, not the Vasant Vihar side, was because of the changed wind direction.

Another Runway to Go Under Renovation

According to the reports, another runway soon will be captured by the concerned department for the repair work. All four airstrips at the Delhi airport will start functioning in full swing by the next summer, and will likely start handling somewhere around 100-105 flights per hour.

T1 Expansion Work

Delhi Airport, which is considered one of the biggest and busiest airports worldwide, is also expected to start expanding its T1, and the work will kickstart before next summer. After the expansion, the airport is expected to boost the passenger handling capacity and contribute in improving the air traffic.

Meanwhile, the leading airline Indigo has demanded the T1 to handle the international flight too, which only operates from Terminal 3. The airline also asked to decongest the T3 by splitting the international flight operation at T1.
