Delhi High Court Dismisses Plea To Postpone ICAI CA May 2024 Exams
In a fresh development pertaining to CA Exams this year, the Delhi High Court has refused to postpone the CA Inter and CA Final Exams 2024 which are scheduled to be held in May 2024, as per a Live Law report. The plea moved by 27 Chartered Accountant candidates to postpone the May 2024 CA Exams was dismissed by Justice C Hari Shankar, as per the report. Dismissing the plea, the court said that mere hardships in taking up the exam can not be considered reasonable grounds to postpone the CA Exams. Approximately, 4,26,000 candidates are reported to appear for the CA Inter and CA Final Exams in May 2024.
“This court is surprised that such a request has been made,” the court was quoted as saying while responding to the plea. The court was further reported as saying that the general elections are slated to be held on May 7 and May 13, and there are no exams scheduled to be held on May 6 and May 12, 2024. Concerned authorities are proactively ensuring that casting of votes of the candidates is not affected by the exams, the court added further.
“For all the aforesaid reason, it is clear on the face of it that the petition is bereft of substance,” the court was further reported as saying while rejecting the plea. The counsel appearing for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) submitted that rearranging the ICAI CA Inter and Final Exams 2024 would through the CA Exams in disarray. He further underlined that utmost care has been taken to ensure that the ICA CA May 2024 Exam dates don’t collide with the dates of the upcoming general elections across the country.
Notably, in the wake of the concut of the 18th general elections 2024 scheduled to be held in 7 phases, beginning from April 19, 2024. Citing the Lok Sabha elections, Chartered Accountant candidates have been urging to postpone and reschedule the ICAI CA May 2024 Exams to June 2024.
