Congress To Launch ‘Jan Aakrosh’ Yatra Today Against Shivraj Chouhan-Led MP Govt’s ‘Failures’

In a bid to highlight what they perceive as the failures of the Madhya Pradesh state government, the Congress party has unveiled plans to embark on the ‘Jan Aakrosh Yatra,’ set to commence on September 19. This extensive journey will span seven different starting points, encompassing all 230 assembly segments in anticipation of the upcoming elections in the state, news agency PTI reported senior leaders as saying.

At a press conference, Kamal Nath, the Chief of Madhya Pradesh Congress, and Randeep Singh Surjewala, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for the state, levelled allegations of rampant corruption against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. They argued that the government had fallen short in addressing critical issues such as unemployment and the safety of women and Dalits.

Surjewala further asserted that a staggering 250 scams have marred the 225 months of BJP rule in Madhya Pradesh. This discontent among the populace, stemming from Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s 18-year tenure as Chief Minister, has crystallized into ‘Jan akrosh’ or public anger, Surjewala claimed.

He went on to describe the state as grappling with severe anarchy, crime, fear, atrocities, and looting. Surjewala contended that various segments of society, including tribals, farmers, Dalits, women, men, marginalized communities, and youth, are determined to unseat the present government to safeguard the state’s future.

Surjewala also made the disquieting claim that over the past 18 years, approximately 58,000 women and girls have been victims of rape, while about 67,000 others were abducted in Madhya Pradesh.

To bring these concerns to the forefront, the Congress party has devised the ‘Jan Akrosh Yatra,’ commencing from seven different locations on September 19. These marches are slated to collectively traverse 11,400 kilometers, covering all 230 constituencies in Madhya Pradesh within a span of 15 days.

The Yatra will be spearheaded by prominent Congress leaders, including Leader of the Opposition Govind Singh, former State Congress Chief Arun Yadav, former ministers Kamleshwar Patel, Jitu Patwari, and Ajay Singh, as well as former Union ministers Suresh Pachouri and Kantilal Bhuria, each leading from distinct locations.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar Set To Launch ‘Kisan Rin Portal’

In an effort to facilitate farmers in accessing subsidized loans through the Kisan Credit Card (KCC), Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar are scheduled to inaugurate the ‘Kisan Rin Portal’ on Tuesday. This initiative will also include a door-to-door KCC campaign and the launch of a manual for the Weather Information Network Data Systems (WINDS) portal, all to be unveiled at an event held at the Pusa complex.

The Kisan Rin digital platform, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, will provide a comprehensive overview of farmer data, specifics regarding loan disbursement, claims for interest subvention, and the progress of the scheme’s utilization. This integrated system aims to foster a seamless collaboration with banks to ensure a more targeted and efficient agricultural credit system.

As of March 30, there were approximately 7.35 crore KCC accounts with a total sanctioned limit of Rs 8.85 lakh crore, as per official statements. The government, during April-August of this fiscal year, disbursed agricultural credit amounting to Rs 6,573.50 crore at a subsidized interest rate.

To extend the benefits of the KCC, the door-to-door campaign will reach out to non-KCC holders who are beneficiaries of the central scheme PM-KISAN, which provides Rs 6,000 per annum to each identified beneficiary farmer’s bank account.

Regarding the WIND portal, the ministry reported that the manual aims to amplify the impact of the Weather Information Network Data Systems (WINDS) initiative. Launched in July, this portal leverages advanced weather data analytics to offer stakeholders actionable insights on weather patterns for informed decision-making in agriculture.
