Days after Nationalist Congress Party leader Baba Siddique left the Congress, the grand old party took action against his son Zeeshan Siddique and removed him from the post of Mumbai Youth Congress President. Earlier this month, Baba Siddique joined Ajit Pawar’s NCP.

The former Maharashtra Minister announced his resignation from the primary membership of the Congress and broke his 48-year association with the party. After removing Zeeshan, Akhilesh Yadav has been appointed as the new president of the Mumbai Youth Congress.

After his resignation from the Congress he said that he has moved on as he was ‘not needed’ in the grand old party anymore. Baba Siddique’s son Zeeshan Siddique is currently a Congress MLA from Bandra (East) in Mumbai.

Siddique was an MLA for three consecutive terms in 1999, 2004 and 2009, and had also served as a minister of state for food and civil supplies, labour and FDA, (2004-08) and had also served as a municipal corporator earlier for two consecutive terms (1992-1997).

The latest development from Maharashtra comes amid reports of rifts between Congress and former Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath. On Monday, the grand old party dismissed the speculation of Kamal Nath’s possible switch to the BJP as “misinformation” and asserted that the former MP chief minister will participate in the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in the state.
