Aviation Ministry Seeks Detailed Report From Vistara Over Cancellation, Flight Delays

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has sought a detailed report from Vistara regarding cancellation and delay of over 100 flights in the past week, reported ANI on Tuesday.

“Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) sought a detailed report from Vistara regarding flight cancellations and major delays, with the airline having cancelled or delayed over 100 flights in the past week,” said the news agency. 

As per a reoprt by news agency PTI, the full-service carrier is going to temporarily reduce its flight operations due to a shortage of pilots, which reportedly resulted in cancellation of approximately 50 flights on Monday and the number could surge to 70 on Tuesday. 

The airline has been facing a shortage of first officers for its A320 flee, who have been reporting sick over the past few weeks in protest against changes in their emoluments due to new contracts, the PTI report added. 

Acknowledging the challenges faced by the airline, a spokesperson for Vistara said that a significant number of flight cancellations and delays in the past few days were caused by various reasons, including crew unavailability.

In a statement, the spokesperson said, “We have decided to temporarily reduce the number of flights we operate to ensure adequate connectivity across our network.”

The spokesperson further said that the teams were working towards minimising the discomfort to the customers. “We have decided to temporarily reduce the number of flights we operate, to ensure adequate connectivity across our network,” the spokesperson said. 

The airline has apologised for flight distruption but did not provide details on the number of flights that have been cancelled.
