New Delhi: Lashing out at the BJP after a massive fire broke out in Madhya Pradesh’s Vallabh Bhawan State Secretariat in Bhopal earlier in the day, Congress said the incident was an “attempt to hide the corruption” of the saffron party.

Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitendra Patwari, who reached Vallabh Bhawan after the incident, said fire broke out in the state secretariat four times earlier and the reason could never be ascertained. He claimed it was a deliberate attempt of the BJP to hide the corruption during the previous regime under Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Speaking to news agency PTI, Patwari said, “BJP has become a synonym of corruption. Vallabh Bhawan was put on fire four times, however, the reasons behind the fire were never known. The BJP government is behind the fire at Vallabh Bhawan.”

“The government is behind this fire. This has been done to hide the sins of corruption. Such incident has happened earlier too,” he added.

“Earlier, fire broke out in Vallabh Bhawan, Satpura Bhawan and other ministries. What was the reason? Who is guilty? What is the scale of destruction? Nothing came out, no data…In India, why do fires break out in Madhya Pradesh’s ministries only,” ANI quoted Patwari as saying.

The Congress leaders also staged a protest outside the Vallabh Bhawan as they were reportedly not allowed to go inside the premises.

According to a report by PTI, a massive fire broke out on the third floor of the state secretariat building. However, no one was injured.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav took stock of the situation and asked the officials concerned to take necessary steps to prevent such incidents. The incident came to light when some sanitation workers noticed smoke billowing out of the building and alerted the fire department.
