An Apple reseller in China has claimed that using USB-C cables designed for Android phones may potentially harm the devices and even cause them to overheat or burn

When Apple launched the iPhone 15 series with the USB-C port, many speculated that Apple would promote its own USB-C cables to generate revenue. However, it was later revealed that you could use any USB-C cable, and it would still work for charging the iPhone 15 series.

But now, in a new development, an Apple reseller in China has claimed that using USB-C cables designed for Android phones may potentially harm the devices and even cause them to overheat or burn.

This information comes from a CNMO report. It states that an Apple reseller store in Foshan City, Guangdong Province, China, has advised iPhone 15 users to avoid using Android USB Type-C charging cables with the iPhone 15 models, citing the aforementioned reasons.

It isn’t exactly clear why the reseller is making such claims, but this comes at a time when many new iPhone 15 Pro models are reportedly experiencing overheating issues.

Interestingly, Apple also informed Forbes that one of the reasons for iPhone 15 overheating could be customers using larger USB-C power adapters, exceeding 20W. This may increase the temperature of the phones. This aligns with the Chinese reseller’s account in some way, as Apple provides a 20W charger, while many Android phones now ship with ultrafast chargers, some even up to 120W. So this could also contribute to the issue.

That being said, Apple has acknowledged reports of iPhone 15 Pro overheating and stated that they are working on a fix soon. The iPhone maker has assured customers that this isn’t a long-term issue; and it appears to be a software bug affecting iOS 17 and some unoptimized apps that are drawing excessive power.
