Apple iPad Air And iPad mini Could Get OLED Displays Starting In 2026: Report – News18

Apple could be considering shifting its iPad Air and iPad mini to OLED panels starting in 2026, as suggested by a new report from Omdia.

This move is expected to follow Apple’s integration of an OLED panel in an iPad model that may launch in 2024. According to the publication, the OLED panels for the said iPad Pro could be supplied by LG Display and Samsung. Moreover, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with Mini LED backlight will be replaced by OLED technology moving forward.

While nothing of this nature has been confirmed, industry insiders, including Mark Gurman, have previously claimed the same for the iPad Pro model launching in 2024.

With that said, it is noted that Apple could slowly trickle down OLED technology to even the iPad Air and iPad mini—both of which are cheaper than the iPad Pro and serve as the middle ground between the iPad 10th generation and the iPad Pro lineup. Apple is expected to analyse the performance of the OLED panel after integration into the iPad Pro in 2024 and then “adjust” its OLED iPad Air and iPad mini launch schedule.

This trajectory could follow the same path that OLED displays for its mobile lineup went through—introducing OLED panels in the iPhone X while choosing to keep offering IPS displays with the iPhone 8 series and the models that followed. Apple only shifted to OLED panels for the vanilla models with the launch of the iPhone 12 series—two generations after the iPhone X.

In related news, Apple could also be working on two new versions of the iPad Air 6, and one of them may be a larger version to go along with the current 10.9-inch version, or perhaps even debut a more expensive model with better specifications. Notably, Apple has not updated the outgoing Apple iPad Air 5th generation (M1 model) since March 2022—when it launched; so an update is long due.
