Academia must compulsorily teach about ‘mind’ that controls our outer persona

1. Reflections to know our mind, that governs our behaviour! I am what my Inner nature, the quality of my mind is, based on my past thoughts-actions. And I ‘see’, judge, label the external world based on my inner world, Mind.

Do we ever wonder that there is a vast, infinite Inner world, hidden behind the flesh, blood we see out there! We have never ‘seen’ that Inner world of a person. We have no idea even of ‘All’ that is within us! Our Inner world appears as an ever-changing Infinite flow of thoughts, feelings, intentions, emotions, likes, dislikes, past, future, dreams, etc. If not exposed to our Inner world, we may be followers of Chaarvaak.

1.1 The Charvak Darsan: Darsan literally means to ‘see’. It is used to represent various ‘schools of Thought’, Worldviews, Philosophies, Religions, etc. Darsan can be and are many because with our limited vision we can only conjecture!

And so, the wise men, in different ages, nations, races, religions, sects, atheists, scientists, etc. suggest various ideas, expressed as My vs Your Religion, God, Darsana. We all are trying to understand the holistic healthy worldview of this unseen and perhaps unknowable, infinitely vast mystical illusion that is this Creation, Creator, and ourselves!

1.2 The Charvak Darsan is simple and clear and doesn’t need inward focus! A Body is born, grows, and dies. It is the nature of all bodies, jiva, that they’re designed to grow and die. Therefore, eat drink and make merry. Sukha se jiyo, live happily. Death is the end. We don’t’ see the dead reawakening. So, why all this philosophical and religious nonsense and ‘noise’ of heaven-hell, etc.

1.3 Charvak is variously described: Sweet talk; sukha-vaadi, pleasure-seekers; Chewing of virtues, values (as you chew mutton); Loud-mouthed critiques of ritualistic Pandits! The Devatas created Charvaka Darsana for the Asura, to keep them busy in pleasures (Artha, Kaama), apparently so that the Asuras don’t disturb the Tapasya of the Devas (Dharma, Moksha) the four human strivings, Purusartha.

The terms Bharati, Sur, good, and righteous, imply those who are striving for the highest Illumination, Spiritual Truths, Self-Realization, Perfection, Freedom, etc. Whereas Asur are those whose focus is on pleasures, irrespective of means.

1.4 So, the philosophical idea is to let the Asuras fulfil pleasures because only thereafter are we ready for higher philosophical ideas and spiritual ideals and can strive towards being virtuous, righteous, etc. and be interested in striving to imbibe commitment to Duties, Swadharma and adhering to Dharma, universal values, righteousness, ethics, etc. towards Freedom!

1.5 Most scientific and logical people and Atheists belong to this most ancient religion and the philosophical school of thought, Chaarvak Darsan. Modern education and society is designed on this hedonistic, materialistic darshan, ignoring many other finer darsanas, because scientists, academia, administrators, preachers, haven’t yet developed a subtle intellect like the Vedic Rishis and Founders of Religions!

2. Religions and Philosophers have abdicated their responsibility and accountability to be guides and mentors of societies because of their self-centeredness, and failure to unite and empower their followers and themselves to be Mentors and inspires of rulers and administrators.

3. The idea of Darsan includes Swadhyaya, i.e., ‘deep Reflection, introspection, self-study, meditations’ etc to understand our subtle, unseen, ‘Inner World of Mind etc.’

And Sadhna, ie, self-development practices, including respective worship, prayers, meditations, yoga, strivings to build relationships and life-skills, commitment to duties, etc etc., which all help to expand the mind to feel one with more and more, and befriend and learn to manage our Mind, our inner instrument, so that we may be able to direct our thoughts-behaviour towards Self-Realizations.

4. All religions have ways for sadhana and swadhyaya but neither religions nor academia introduce us to our Mind, our only inner instrument of perception. Academia teaches philosophies, comparative religions, social sciences, etc. that all focus only on outer aspects; no one teaches how to manage the ever-restless mind!

5. I am continuously forming, refining, or polluting my mind based on my present choices and actions. I alone am aware of the happenings in my Inner world of mind, etc., and if I develop awareness, will power and self-control, I can choose to act towards either better or worse. I can learn to manage my responses, my thoughts-feelings, not just react without thinking.

I must know and appreciate that the quality of my mind, controls my behaviour. I must somehow learn to build ability to strive to know and direct my mind to choose and act towards the better. Academia and preachers of religions must learn to work together with scientists to create Sadhna and Swadhyaya practices to imbibe commitment to Duties, awaken Viveka-buddhi and strive towards being righteous towards Self Knowledge, aka be a Karma Yogi, KYi.

6. Whatever may be our Darsana, it doesn’t prohibit us to be a KYi! We can all be educated and preached to fulfil our duties, help others, be selfless aka be a KYi, and have the option to graduate from mere ‘Vishaya-Ananda’ of Charvaka towards the stage of ‘Bhajana-ananda’, a state of Happiness without any external ‘sense-pleasures’ so that we may enjoy being busy, in whatever gives us an opportunity to be busy, sweeping or leading. Why not try to experience that Ananda, that we now experience only in deep sleep, brahm-ananda, in the Waking state too!

7. Conclusion: Bharatiya wisdom suggests that through’ Self-development practices during growing up, and service of God in man and creation, we can dissolve our IQ-Buddhi into viveka-buddhi, and being a Karma Yogi befriend the life, consciousness, self, kingdom of God within and be fulfilled, perfect.
