Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday declined the request put forth by Delhi CM and AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal, seeking the appointment of Raghav Chadha as the interim party leader in the Rajya Sabha, in place of party MP Sanjay Singh, who is in judicial custody in a money laundering case, according to the sources, news agency ANI reported. In response to this, AAP’s Sources informed that the request for the appointment is not declined, however, some corrections are seeked which will be addressed soon, PTI reported.

AAP’s Sources informed PTI: “The request (to appoint Raghav Chadha as party’s leader in Upper House of Parliament) is not declined. Some corrections were sought which will be addressed.”

Earlier this month, the party wrote to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar about the change of command in the AAP’s Rajya Sabha leadership in Singh’s absence.

The 35-year-old MP is one of the Rajya Sabha’s youngest members. He was elected as one of AAP’s 10 MPs from Punjab in March 2022.

Chadha, a former Delhi MLA who resigned to become an MP, rose to become the AAP’s leader in less than two years.

He was also a member of the team that helped AAP win in Punjab, and he was later named co-leader of the party in Gujarat ahead of the Assembly elections.

Chadha, a chartered accountant, was also recruited by the AAP government in Punjab as an advisor “overseeing” the state administration’s design and implementation of pro-people projects and “advising” it on financial problems.

The decision drew contention because Chadha, who is close to party supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, was elevated to the position of “super Chief Minister” above Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
