18 Naxalites Killed In An Encounter With Security Personnel In Chhattisgarh, 3 Soldiers Hurt

New Delhi: In a decisive operation against Naxal insurgents, security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district neutralized 18 militants during an encounter on Tuesday. Three security personnel suffered injuries in the fierce gun-battle and the recovery of five AK-47 rifles and LMG weapons from the spot, the state police said. The clash occured  around 2 pm in the Hapatola forest area, situated between Binagunda and Koronar villages under the jurisdiction of Chhotebethiya police station.

“One more security personnel injured in an encounter between police and Naxals in the Kanker district. Encounter is going on in the forest area of the Chhotebethiya police station limits”, IG Bastar P Sundarraj said.

The joint operation, led by the Border Security Force (BSF) in collaboration with the state police’s District Reserve Guard (DRG), targeted Naxal strongholds as part of an anti-insurgency initiative. BSF, deployed extensively in Kanker district for counter-insurgency operations, achieved a significant breakthrough with the recovery of the bodies of 18 Maoist cadres from the encounter site.

Alongside the militants, seven AK series rifles and three Light Machine Guns were seized, underscoring the magnitude of the operation’s success. Despite the intense gunfight, only one BSF personnel sustained a bullet injury to his leg, with reports indicating that he is currently stable. Meanwhile, three security personnel injured in the skirmish are being transferred to a hospital for medical treatment, highlighting the risks endured by forces engaged in anti-insurgency efforts in the region.
